Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 15, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what data Sky Divergent collects, how we use it, and who we share it with. Sky Divergent is an AI-assisted academic research tool — using it necessarily means some of your research content is sent to third-party services described below.
1. Information We Collect
- Account data — name, email, and authentication identifiers, managed through our auth provider, Clerk.
- Research content — your research topic, intake answers, uploaded datasets, selected evidence, and generated drafts.
- Billing data — subscription plan and payment status. Card details are collected and stored by Stripe directly; we never see or store full card numbers.
- Usage data — feature usage, generation counts, and error logs, used to operate and improve the service.
2. How We Use It
We use your data to operate the service you asked for: running your searches, generating drafts, checking claims, analyzing uploaded data, processing payments, and providing support. We do not sell your personal data.
3. Third Parties We Share Data With
Sky Divergent is built on top of several external services. Using the product means the relevant piece of your content is sent to whichever of these it takes to complete the action you requested:
- AI model providers (OpenAI, DeepSeek, and/or Anthropic, depending on configuration) — your research context and evidence are sent to these providers to generate drafts, titles, and analyses. We do not control their data retention; consult their respective policies for how long they retain API inputs.
- Clerk — authentication and session management.
- Stripe — payment processing and subscription billing.
- Crossref, OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar — queried with your search terms to find and verify literature; no account-identifying data is sent, only the search/citation query itself.
- Unpaywall, CORE, Europe PMC, arXiv — queried to resolve legal open-access full text for citation verification. We never route requests through unauthorized or paywall-circumventing sources.
4. Data Storage
Application data (accounts, research intakes, drafts, evidence, analysis results) is stored in a managed PostgreSQL database (Neon). Redis is used for short-lived caching and rate limiting, not long-term storage. Uploaded datasets are stored on the application server's ephemeral filesystem during analysis.
5. Data Retention & Deletion
We retain your account and research data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at the email below; we will process such requests within a reasonable time, subject to any data we are legally required to retain (e.g., billing records).
6. Cookies & Local Storage
We use essential cookies/local storage for authentication sessions and to remember your in-progress work (e.g., an active generation job) across page refreshes. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. Contact us to exercise any of these rights.
8. Children's Privacy
Sky Divergent is intended for university-level and professional researchers. It is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
